Our Scripture reading today is 1 John 4:8-11.

Verse 11, "Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another."

Love originated with God.  He IS love!  His love for us is unconditional.  There isn't anything we can do to keep Him from loving us.  His love provided sinful mankind with forgiveness of sin and eternal life in Heaven.  John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  It is impossible for us to completely understand His love, but what we do know is that God loves us.

This truth is what moves us to love one another.  We should love our spouses because God loves us.  We should love our children and all of our family because God loves us.  We should love our brothers and sisters in Christ because God loves us.  As we are walking in His Spirit, we will be equipped to love one another.  It ought to be our goal to allow His love to flow through us to those we come across our path.  Most importantly, our love should start with the One Who loved us. 1 John 4:19, "We love him, because he first loved us."
