Our Scripture reading today is Luke 18:17, "Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein."
We read in one verse the message from the Lord Jesus that opens the door to Heaven for everyone. The message of coming to God is really quite simple. It is so simple that some of the brightest minds never could or would accept the message. I say brightest simply because of the worldly accomplishments they have made. Spiritually speaking, the Scriptures would not call these deep thinkers, bright. Psalm 19:14, "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
Simple, child-like faith is all that is necessary to be forgiven and receive the gift of eternal life. This faith must be placed in the finished work of the Lord Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. A child comes to Jesus just as they are. They will not try to make themselves worthy; they just come. This is the simple message we must continue to deliver. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
