Our Scripture reading today is Luke 18:31, "Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished."

The Son of God is also the Son on Man.  Everything that was written about the Son of Man by the Old Testament prophets was fulfilled in the Lord Jesus.  The Jewish people of the this day could not imagine that the Messiah would die as a sin-bearing servant.  He was supposed to lead them to victory over the oppressive Roman army.  The Jews (not all) are still waiting on the coming of their Messiah.  They, for the most part, have rejected the Son of Man as being their Saviour.

We ought to rejoice today that the Saviour last words as the Son of Man were, "It is finished!"  There is nothing to be added to what Jesus Christ accomplished.  We are given eternal life when we recognize our sinful condition and turn by faith to the blood of Jesus Christ for our cleansing.  God gives us salvation because the Son of Man died, was buried and rose again three days later.  He suffered that we don't have to.  He died that we might live!
