Our Scripture reading today is Luke 17:31-32, "In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife."

An emphasis is placed in these verses on keeping our affections on the eternal and not the temporal.  These individuals are representing those who are ready for Jesus return.  They are more concerned with what and Who is waiting for them in Heaven than for what possessions they had in their house.  Lot's wife is being used an example to take heed to and learn a lesson from.  Don't repeat what she did.  The things of this world had a really strong grip on Mrs. Lot.

We should set our eyes on the deliverance Jesus Christ has provided for us.  He is our Saviour and our soon coming King.  The possessions we have are not wrong to have unless they have us more than our God.  They can be used as tools to bring God glory, but are not to be worshipped as if they were a god.  We might be living in a Sodom like place, but we can still live victorious as we await our departure.
