Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 18:21-22.

Verse 22, "Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven."

The Apostle Peter reveals something that may just be in each of our hearts.  He reveals a limited level of forgiveness.  Surely, the Saviour will think forgiving someone seven times is enough?  The Rabbis of his day taught forgiving someone three times.  This meant Peter was doubling it plus one.  “The Rabbis discussed this question, and recommended not more than three times…Peter’s seven times is therefore generous, but Jesus’ reply does away with all limits and calculations.” (France)

Jesus reply to Peter and to each of us is to forgive over and over again.  We should not limit our forgiveness to others.  I am thankful that we are not limited as to how many times God will forgive us!  1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
