Our Scripture reading today is Exodus 4:2, "And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod."
The LORD had already given Moses what he would use on numerous occasions prior to leading the people and while he was leading them.  The key is would Moses surrender what he had been given.  The same could be said about each of us.  We have something in our hand and it needs to be surrendered to the LORD.  More than likely it is probably not a rod, but it might be a talent we have been given to serve in the church and bring glory to God.  Are we willing to surrender it?
Another truth we can take from this one verse, is that God has been preparing each of us for His will.  God prepared Moses when he was a shephered and that is the tool he would use while leading the children of Israel.  It was a simple piece of wood, but when surrendered was used mightly time and time and again.
