Our Scripture reading today is Luke 15:22-24.
Verse 24, "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry."
How long had the father been waiting for his lost son?  Would he ever come home?  These and many other questions would have been in the heart of this father each and every day.  I am sure he was longing for him to return home.  No wonder there is such rejoicing when the lost son finally comes home.
We are born in a lost, sinful condition.  Our souls are dead and in need of the life that only the Lord Jesus can give us.  The price to be made alive has already been paid through Jesus Christ death, burial and resurrection.  It only requires our simple, child-like faith in believing and receiving the gift of God which is eternal life.
As children of God, we too ought to be found rejoicing when a lost sinner is gloriously saved.  The more the family grows, the more glory that the Father receives.  It should be part of our daily prayer time to pray for lost people to humble themselves and by faith come to the waiting, forgiving Father.  God is always ready and willing to save!
