Our Scripture reading today is 2 Samuel 11:1, "And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem."

Why was David not going out to the battle?  Why did he stay in Jerusalem?  I am not sure that we know the answer to these and possibly other questions in reference to this passage of Scripture.  What we do know is that King David was not where he was supposed to be and this decision would lead him to make several other foolish decisions.

It is very important that we be where we are supposed to be.  A bit of a tongue twister but it is definitely true.  Possibly you have heard someone say, "They were at the wrong place at the wrong time."  We can apply this quote to David's life in 2 Samuel 11.  He put himself in the place of temptation by not going to battle.  Every child of God needs wisdom and discernment to be where we are supposed to be.  It just happens to be Sunday, the Lord's day.  Where are we supposed to be?
