Our Scripture reading today is Philippians 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
This verse is short, but it makes its point. The life we have been is given is not our own.
My purpose in life is to live each day for Christ and His glory. At salvation, we have a
new and greater Master. No longer are we under the chains of sin and destruction. A new
life has been given through the Lord Jesus. It is now our responsibility to die. Yes, we
have new life, but we must die to what we want to do. We die to our plans and
ambitions. According to the Apostle Paul, death in this fashion is gain. It is impossible
to serve two masters. The key to the successful Christian life is death to self and live for
Christ.
