Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 86:5, "For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and
plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee."
The God of mercy and forgiveness is just waiting to supply either one to those who
humbly will ask Him. Our calling upon the LORD is our recognizing that we are
sinful people and God is holy. “We are blinded by sin, and cannot believe that God is ready to forgive.
We think that we must induce Him to forgive, by tears, promises of amendment, religious observances....
Oh, clasp this word to your heart! Say it over and over again — ‘Ready to forgive, ready to forgive!’” (Meyer)
We should also be ready to forgive those who have wronged us. God is holy and
ready to forgive sinners. Sinners should be more than ready to forgive their
fellow sinner. Be willing to give what has already been given to us time and time
again.
