Our Scripture reading today is Luke 24:32-33.
Verse 32, "And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?"
No question this is the best kind of heart burn anyone could ever experience. It was in no way a physical malady that could be helped by taking some kind of antacid medicine. I am positive Tums were not an option back then.
These men had just had a personal sermon from the Son of God. Wow!! Consider the fact that they did not know it was Jesus Christ teaching them when their heart burned within them. In fact, at the time, they did not believe Jesus was risen. What caused their heart to burn within them? Yes, it was Who delivered the message, but it was ALSO the scriptures!
As we meditate on the fact that the scriptures caused their heart to burn, it ought to encourage us that our ministry of the Word will have an impact. We are simply delivering bread to the hungry. I never understood these verses and especially verse 32 in this way. It is not about us, but it is ALL about the Word of God! Praise the Lord!!
