Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 119:4-5, "Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!"
We are admonished to be obedient to the precepts and statutes of God. Where can these
be found? They are found by reading the Word of God. God's Word is our order
from Headquarters. As a follower of Jesus Christ, we are to live not according to what
we want, but according to what God's Word tells us. It is not an option or when it is
convenient. Our life is to be a bright light for those still in darkness. This can only take
place when we die to self and walk in the Spirit. As we are obedient, the light of
Jesus Christ shines through us and God receives the glory.
“God has not commanded us to be diligent in making precepts, but in keeping them. Some bind
yokes upon their own necks, and make bonds and rules for others: but the wise course is to be satisfied
with the rules of holy Scripture.” (Spurgeon)
