Our Scripture reading today is Luke 17:34-36, "I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."
What would cause this sudden division of people at home and at work? The description is of the soon and sudden coming of the Lord Jesus. Everything will be business as usual and then like the blink of an eye everything will change. At any moment around the world, there are people in bed and there are people working. Every day people get up and do the same thing they did the previous day with little to no thought of eternity. The lesson we need to take from this is readiness. Are we ready for Jesus' return? Only those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour will be caught up with Him in the air. (See 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18.)
