Our Scripture reading today is 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11.

Verse 8, "But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation."

The Apostle Paul compares Christians to people of the day.  We have the light of Jesus Christ in us.  As soldiers in the Lord's army, we are to be alert and ready.  There are several pieces of armour mentioned in this passage.  A soldier would never go to battle without the breastplate as it protects the vital organs.  If they did, more than likely they would not last long.

The two attributes (faith and love) attached to the breastplate are needed every day in our lives as Christians.  As the battle rages on, faith reminds us that God is all powerful and in complete control.  Our hope continues to be in the One Who spoke the world into existence.  He is able!!  When we get the report that our health is compromised, love reminds us that God is with us and will never forsake us.  His sovereign will is always best.

Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

1 John 3:1, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."

Have a wonderful day!
