Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."
The greatest example of a peacemaker is the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is our example to follow in every area of our lives.  He made it possible for sinful man to have peace with a holy God.  Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."  In order for Jesus Christ to be the ultimate peacemaker, He had to leave where He was and come to this earth.  We could say that the Lord Jesus was a missionary.
As a child of God, we have the opportunity to be peacemakers.  I cannot think of a better way to be a peacemaker than to share the Gospel with this lost, hell-bound world.  There is no peace outside of a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Isaiah 9:6 refers to Him as the "Prince of Peace."  Going with the Gospel is not an option for the believer.  It has and always will be a command.  Therefore, we are called to be peacemakers.  The family of God must be faithful in this most important calling.
