Our Scripture reading today is Genesis 18:31-33.
Verse 31, "And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake."
The context of these verses is an attempt by Abraham to spare Sodom from God's judgement.  Abraham is very concerned because he has family living in Sodom.  Lot and his family have lived there for some time and would be facing God's judgement if the 10 righteous people were not found or they left Sodom.  The key statement for me this morning is, "I have taken upon me..."  Abraham prayed to God on behalf of others.  He was supplicating for Sodom.
There is quite possibly many similarities between Sodom and the day in which we are living.  Sinful lifestyles such as homosexuality continue to be accepted and applauded and even by so called churches.  Mankind is following the pattern from the time of the judges and doing that which is right in his own eyes.  It is up to God's people to follow the example of Abraham.  We must repent of our sin and take up the baton of seeking God's mercy on the behalf of our land.  Do you have unsaved family living in Canada?  They will face God's judgement unless they repent and turn to Jesus Christ for salvation.  The power of the Gospel starts when we speak to the Lord.  He is more than willing to empower the humble and holy witness of His children.
