Our Scripture reading today is Exodus 31:18, "And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God."

Can you imagine carrying something that God had put His fingers on?  The very first "tablets" had God's handy work all over them.  There was a specific set of laws (ten commandments) that God gave to Moses that the people were to follow.  As they followed them, they were blessed.  As they rejected them, they were judged.  God knew that man needed these laws especially after being in the pagan land of Egypt for so long.

We hold in our hands every day something that was given to us by the voice of God.  It is far more detailed than the tablets of stone, but they are contained within what God has given to us.  2 Peter 1:19-21, "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

After we came "out of Egypt", God knew we would need His Word.  What a blessing to hold in our hands something God breathed!
