Our Scripture reading today is Acts 8:8, "And there was great joy in that city."
Many wonderful works had been performed in Samaria. It started with the
preaching of Christ in verse 5 and continued through verse 7. Pastor Clarence
Sexton is known for saying, "It all begins with God". The miracles of God are not
as important as the Person of God. We must not look beyond God to the mighty
works. Our gaze must remain on our heavenly Father. I really like how Mr.
Spurgeon puts it, "“Beloved friends, I delight to preach to you all the doctrines which I find in God’s
Word; but I desire always to preach the person of Christ above the doctrine; the doctrine is but the chair
in which Christ sits as a Prophet to instruct us.” (Spurgeon)
The need in your city is the same as in Samaria -- Jesus Christ!
