Our Scripture reading today is John 20:19-24.
Verse 24, "But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came."
This is more than likely the very first church service following the resurrection.  It would have been one of those meetings one would not want to miss.  It had a nervous type feeling at the beginning of the meeting and then Jesus Christ put everyone at ease when He showed them it really was Jesus.  He encouraged them to be at peace and He gave them the Holy Ghost.  What a church service!!  We come to verse 24 and we have to ask, "Where was Thomas?"
The Scriptures do not indicate where Thomas was during this very special meeting with the risen Saviour, Jesus Christ.  What is clear is that He missed it.  It's Monday morning and by God's grace, we are reflecting on how the Lord Jesus met with us yesterday morning and evening.  I wonder how many of God's people are like Thomas.  For whatever reason, many healthy people missed either one or both services on the Lord's Day.  Something else was more important than gathering together with the family of God.  Thomas missed something special and when we miss meeting with the Lord Jesus on the first day of the week, we are missing something.  Hebrews 10:25, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
